We pay respect to the people of the Bunjalung Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work.
We acknowledge the vital contribution they continue to make to the health and well-being of the land and people of this region.
Nestled in the beautiful forest of Koonyum Range, Birdcloud Studio offers a perfect retreat for overnight stays or workshops - creativity, yoga, meditation, music, artwork
Perfectly located, we're just, 5 minutes from Mt Jerusalem National Park, 15 minutes from Mullumbimby, 25 minutes from Brunswick Heads, and 35 minutes from Byron Bay
Wake up to the sounds of currawongs, cockatoos and kookaburras, or keep an eye out for fairywrens, goannas, echidnas, and perhaps even a koala. Watch the golden sun rays filter through the forest and enjoy an evening around the campfire
Affectionately known as the “Treehouse”, this is an ideal getaway for singles, couples, small families or groups seeking a peaceful space for birdwatching, reading, writing, art, yoga, or meditation
There is no air conditioning and no insect screens on doors or windows, but the large roof fans and mosquito net over the queen bed provide a cooling breeze and keep mozzies away
Modern eco-friendly composting toilet and outdoor shower with instant hot water and private forest views
The kitchen is equipped with all the essentials, including:
The studio is a single large open plan space, 12 meters by 6 meters, with an adjoining garage
The spacious living/meeting/performance area is furnished with couches, a dining table and a 5 octave marimba (actually 5.5 octaves - this is big!)
The large elevated deck overlooks a rainforest gully
The space can be re-arranged to suit requirements
We offer an Artist-in-Residency Program to support artists and to broaden appreciation of the beauty of Koonyum Range in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. The residency program provides an opportunity for artists to spend up to a week at the Treehouse, with time to focus on their art in a serene forest setting.
For the adventurous, enjoy private bushwalking tracks on the property or explore the stunning public walking trails, waterfalls, swimming holes and rock climbing in Mt Jerusalem National Park
The Treehouse is an ideal base for a variety of hiking trails, including the popular Unicorn Falls Walking Track and the multi-day Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk. See https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/mount-jerusalem-national-park
Birdcloud is also the location of my workshop where I make turned and carved wood bowls, furniture, sculpture
I focus on creating unique handcrafted pieces that surface the inherent beauty, form, patterns, textures and colours in locally sourced timber

We offer an Artist-in-Residency Program to support artists and to broaden appreciation of the beauty of Koonyum Range. The residency program provides an opportunity for artists to spend up to a week at the Treehouse, with time to focus on their art in a serene forest setting.
We will provide free accommodation at the Treehouse, with bedding, linen, and basic cooking facilities.
The selected artist will need to arrange their own travel and bring their own food, art materials and equipment. We can provide a table, easel and boards if required.
We request artists leave a small artwork that we can display in the Treehouse, with an artist’s statement about the artwork and their experience.
This residency is available from October 27th to November 1st, 2025, and is open to artists who live in Australia or elsewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, and who work in the fields of visual art (including drawing, painting, sculpture), literature, music or dance. This is the inaugural residency of what we hope will become an annual opportunity.
